-San Diego residents know what an important effect the oceans have on our weather, our livelihoods and our economy. Jason 1, a joint mission of the United States and France, provides a unique global view of the oceans that is impossible to acquire except from space. Jason 1 is able to measure the large and small hills and valleys of the ocean's surface, allowing scientists to calculate the speed and direction of ocean currents and monitor global ocean circulation.
